The 7th Pratz Medieval Festival

The 2015 Medieval Festival:  Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 August 2015

The village is not a medieval city, there’s no castle here, but just a wish on the part of the enterprising Praz sur Arly Fesitvals Committee to organize a fun medieval festival. Since 2009, this festival has been a huge success, with numerous spectators, which confirms the public interest in this period of history.

Médiévales

Praz sur Arly will take you back to the Middle Ages for two days of shows, discoveries and amazing encounters… Access is free for all the activities (except for the equestrian shows, falconry and the medieval tournament). You’ll be able to eat and drink on the spot in the “Vieux Bouc” (“Old Goat”) tavern or at the banquet on Saturday evening.

 New in the 2015 Edition

The banks of the River Arly welcome the Medieval Festival! In addition to the village centre, the Val D’Arly Road and the Meurets football field, the Medieval Festival will also take place along the Arly River, a shady spot where the inhabitants of Praz like to cool off on hot days!

New troops and companies of the 2015 edition:

Gandalf, the blacksmith. Gandalf’s medieval forge and his giant bellows are an amazing show in itself and a demonstration of unique skill. The fascination of the charcoal fire, improvised sword fights, and ax-throwing will undoubtedly fascinate the young and old alike! Banks of the Arly, free access.

laforge

The master cord-maker. Making of string, ropes, cables using a medieval technique. Arly Road, free access.

Mylène’s workshop. Felting of wool. Felt is a fabric made from fibres of wool moistened in soapy water and  rubbed for a long time until the fibres are permanently intermingled. Arly Road, free access.

The magical world of Ivana. Workshop for making dolls and puppets. Arly Road, free access.

The Guild Association of the Wolf of the Steppes. Educational workshops: making of chain-mail, ropes, leather, calligraphy, weaving, embroidery, archery, minting of money… TOQTAI and Lady CARCASS live in a XIIth and XIIIth century yurt in the company of the Wolf, GALINA. Lady PERRINE demonstrates calligraphy. And WULF is a warrior… Banks of the Arly, free access.

la hanse du loups des steppes

More than 35 people from La Ciotat will be present at this Festival (the town of La Ciotat has a holiday centre in Praz sur Arly). You will certainly encounter the following:

the beggars, very disrespectful women reduced to begging, avoid them if possible…

The wine growers, who trample grapes barefoot

The washerwomen, an insult! Don’t hesitate to give them your clothes to clean, or even your feet…

The apothecary – he heals all ills with various different potions.

The Programme for Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 August 2015

From 10.00 to 23.00 on Saturday 8 August and from 10.00 to 19.00 on Sunday 9 August.

Click on the poster below for the programme of both days (French only).

Médiévales 200 actors and extras, 50 shows and activities, 30 stalls and stands… It will all take place in 5 areas of the village: the Route du Val d’Arly (reserved for pedestrians), the show area (in front of the church), the Belles Encampment (in front of the private school), the Clairière des Belles and the show esplanade (the hot air balloon take-off area).

3rd MOUNTAIN FESTIVAL,  SUNDAY 28 JUNE

PicMonkey Collage

Every year since 2013,  professionals who work in mountain and tourism activities get together to highlight the wealth of our mountains, be they cultural, sporting or gastronomic. Many of the activities on this day are dedicated to the discovery of the mountains in all its forms.
Rendez-vous at lunchtime in the Belles Leisure Park for a friendly picnic at the Barabelles Snack Bar. In the afternoon, discover the themed  trails: accompanied by guides, go hiking and discover the area surrounding Praz sur Arly. In a short time, you can enjoy exceptional views and even see unexpected flora and fauna! Cani-rando: walking, but pulled by a dog that normally pulls a sled in winter! In summer, thanks to a harness that is tied to your waist, the dog adjusts to your pace. It’s a sport that’s accessible to the whole family! Nordic walking: walking with special poles, discover the pleasure of hiking in the mountains by making your whole body work without effort! Other activities at the Belles Leisure Park: archery, climbing wall, playgrounds…
